A Christmas Poem
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house
A creature was stirring and it was not a mouse.
Her black nose and lips, golden fur shining,
To the kitchen she tip-toed, for trash she’d be dining.
Past the glimmering tree, all lit up with lights,
She snuck to the can, for leftover bites.
Toe nails clicking on the hard tiled floor,
Would the young woman hear her, through her bedroom door?
Mouth is now watering, starting to drool,
Miss Honey was ready for her midnight Yule!
Tidbits of turkey, potatoes, and rolls,
Stuffing, gravy, green bean casserole!
Ice cream and cookies, pumpkin pie and whipped cream,
It smelled so delicious, a doggie's true dream!
She inched even closer, her paws at the ready,
To avoid making noise, she must be so steady!
But then from the bedroom she heard a soft stirring,
“Where are you Honey?” came a sleepy slurring.
The sound of her name made her stop in her tracks,
No longer she planned to fill up with snacks.
Back past the tree, she trotted with care,
Jumped into bed, the young woman did share.
Cuddles and snuggles and ear rubs galore,
Glad not to make a mess on the floor.
The young woman hugged her and both fell asleep,
The midnight raid, a secret to keep.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays from M.K. Corder and The Dog Named Miss Honey Bunny!
