“I will defend the importance of bedtime stories to my last gasp.” - JK Rowling

Welcome!

If you've ever had a pet who truly transformed your life for the better, you know that a children's book is far too short to capture all the wonderful memories, laughable moments, and quirky habits of your beloved furry family member.

This blog is not only a place to share more of Miss Honey Bunny's stories, but also a little bright spot in your day—whether you're looking for a laugh before bed or something uplifting to start your morning. It might even offer a refreshing break for parents who are reading the original Miss Honey Bunny books on repeat at bedtime, while still indulging your child's special love for the little dog who's won so many hearts.

As we eagerly await the release of Book Two in The Adventures of a Dog Named Miss Honey Bunny—coming December 6, 2024—I wanted to share a sneak peek with you. This chapter offers a glimpse into one of the lessons Miss Honey Bunny learns from her new family, and the love that’s at the heart of every adventure.

So let's turn off the noise of the world, set aside our devices, and make space for the moments that truly matter—time spent with the ones we love. Let's create memories through bedtime stories, where the simple act of reading together can fill our hearts and enrich our lives.

I hope you enjoy...

Book Two of The Adventures of a Dog Named Miss Honey Bunny comes out December 6, 2024!

Chapter 2

A few days each week, the young woman would spend almost all day with Miss Honey Bunny.  Those were Honey Bunny’s most favorite days. When it was nice outside, the young woman would take her to the most incredible place…a place with endless fields of the greenest grass and lots of other dogs of all shapes and sizes running around.  Friends! The best part was that everyone was running around free!  No leashes and endless games of fetch…oh how she loved to play fetch!

Honey Bunny noticed that the muscles in her back legs and chest were becoming quite strong, allowing her to outrun most dogs at the park!  She was not the biggest dog but she could run with the fastest!

The dog park had many types of dogs.  Some dogs loved to play while others liked to make trouble.  It was not uncommon to hear friendly barks but sometimes growls and snarls too.  Honey Bunny did her best to stay away from the dogs that snarled.  She preferred to be friends with everyone!

One day, Honey Bunny, joined in on a game of fetch with a tall, yellow Labrador Retriever named Picasso.  Also joining in the game was a spry Blue Heeler named Annie.  Honey Bunny watched as Picasso’s owner launched the ball.  Expecting the throw, she took a head start and beat both Picasso and Annie to the ball.  Proud of her catch, Honey Bunny pranced around with the ball in her mouth, not returning it to the thrower for another round.  Once the other two dogs realized she was not bringing the ball back, Annie started growling and became grumpy.  Picasso started barking at Honey, over and over and over again!

Honey Bunny began to realize that she was ruining their fun and felt embarrassed.  She didn’t want to be a dog who makes trouble, so she quickly ran the ball back to Picasso’s owner for another throw.  This time, she waited for the throw like the other two dogs then took off after the ball.  All three dogs sprinted across the field but again, Honey Bunny arrived at the ball first!  She turned and immediately brought it back to the thrower.  No snarling or barking from her new friends this time!  All three dogs played for many more throws, taking turns retrieving the ball.

Honey Bunny realized that sharing while playing was important for making new friends.  The three dogs played so well together, they often met at the dog park for long games of fetch.  If another dog joined the game and did not play nice, Annie, Picasso, and Honey Bunny would be sure to let that dog know the rules of their game.  Nice dogs only!  No trouble makers!

Insider story...

Honey Bunny and I were living in Lexington, Kentucky at the time of this photo. Lexington had one of the best dog parks I have ever encountered in 15 years of dog ownership! This park had so many acres of gorgeous green grass, all fenced in and meant for the delight of our pups. We would often go with friends for long games of fetch. Pictured here is real-life friend and co-worker with his dashing Lab Picasso. Miss Annie is a fictional friend but chosen for the breed's agility and spryness when competing in games of fetch!
